The Budapest Centre was invited to participate to the Ordinary Meeting of the Regional Committee on Genocide Prevention of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) that was held in Kampala (Uganda), with the support of the Office of the Special Advisor of the UN Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide and in collaboration with the Uganda National Coordination Mechanism.
The members of the Regional Committee for the Prevention and the Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity and all forms of Discrimination for member States of the Great Lakes Region met in Kampala from 18th-19th of October 2012.
The meeting was attended by representatives from The Republic of Angola, The Republic of Burundi, The Central Africa Republic, The Democratic Republic of Congo, The Republic of Kenya, The Republic of Rwanda, The Republic of the Sudan, The United Republic of Tanzania and The Republic of Uganda.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Office of the Special Advisor for the Prevention of Genocide, George Mason University, and the Budapest Centre for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities.
The objective of the meeting has been to discuss the regional developments and to update and develop a work plan for the Regional Committee.
The Regional Committee, in its final report of the meeting, welcomed the willingness of the Budapest Centre for the International Prevention of Genocide and Mass Atrocities to support the work of the Regional Committee and National Committees.
