Today is the first International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime!
The 9th of December is the anniversary of the signing of the 1948 Genocide Convention. Therefore, the International Day is intended to commemorate and honour the victims of the crime of genocide around the world, and to raise awareness about the Convention and its role in combating and preventing the crime as well as protecting populations from future genocides.
The Budapest Centre joins the international community in commemorating and honoring the victims of the crime of genocide. Our Centre is contributing to an effective implementation of a global architecture for the prevention of mass atrocities by raising awareness, developing methodologies, building up capabilities, and promoting greater understanding of links between such crimes and extremism and radicalization.
