Skopje: Successful Participation in Meeting on Monitoring Human Rights Violations on Migrants

From September 14th to 17th, Tommaso Trillò, Junior Research of the Budapest Centre, has been part of the organizing staff of a training on monitoring and evaluating Human Rights violations against migrants held in Skopje, Macedonia, by Open Society Fundation Macedona in cooperation with the organization No Peace Without Justice.

Aside offering logistical support to the organizing team, Trillò contributed with insights on gender, migration, and mass atrocities along the lines of his recent working paper Gender identity, gender based violence, and the Responsibility to Protect.

The training was specifically aimed at activists and practitioners in working to uphold the human rights of migrants facing hardship along the so-called Balkan route towards Northern Europe.

The Budapest Centre welcomes initiatives such as the training in Skopje as invaluable opportunities to strengthen the network of practitioners working in the broad field of human rights across Europe and beyond. Participation in this initiative is meant as a first step towards deeper involvement of the Centre in the field of mass atrocities and migration.
